Bright new menus through the 52 outlet Two for One chain have been welcomed by staff and customers alike and an early star has proved to be an £11.95 (for two!) Mixed Grill.

With rump steak, gammon, chicken breast, fried egg, onion rings, chips, grilled tomato and peas it challenges big appetites and is completed by two 50g. pork and leek sausages.

Two for One chose a fully cooked and frozen sausage from Snowbird foods as a kitchen-friendly solution and that has been welcomed at the Ashby Lodge outlet on the outskirts of Scunthorpe.

With over 100 covers it serves from late morning onwards through the day and for unit manager James Newcombe the fully cooked option is good idea.

“We are not messing about in the kitchen. We can heat two sausages in 45 seconds in a microwave and a probe confirms they are ready to serve,” he said.

Retired steelworker Tony Brown is a regular customer – sometimes as often as three times a week.

“I’ve never had a bad meal here and the mixed grill is one of my favourites,” he said.

His verdict on the microwaved sausages: “excellent”.
