Research amongst customers in the ready meals catering sector has identified a product benefit for its Gourmet Plus range of sausages that Snowbird foods hadn't recognised.
The company made extensive follow up enquiries following the upgrade of the range from Gourmet to Gourmet Plus.
"Out customers were voting it the most attractive sausage on the market and that plate appeal is helping to lift sales to a new level," said sales director, Roy Anderson.
Snowbird fully cooks the sausages before freezing so it can consistently deliver plump, golden brown, curved links that look home made.
With an 85% meat content (of all British pork) it had previously been established that the quality, texture and taste were significant drivers of sales.
"Gourmet Plus also ticks all the right ethical boxes because the range contains no m.s.g., preservatives or artificial colours. It's really into the home store cupboard syndrome, just being made with good quality meat and spices," added Mr. Anderson.
The growth in demand has been comfortably met by Snowbird's factory, recently upgraded at a cost of £5.5m.
Established flavours include Pork, Lincolnshire, Cumberland, Wild Boar, Pork & Apple and Highland and bespoke flavours are available on demand.
In this area the company has recently demonstrated significant expertise in the use of fresh, glazed and dried fruits and has added a new dimension to private label quality with blends like pork and Bramley apple.
It is now experimenting with exotic fruits to add further interest to a mature market.
